Well lovers, I’m back in my beautiful Perth and to my surprise I have been feeling rather unsettled, slightly tormented even, and I haven’t understood it properly until today.
I realised several things this morning but before I tell you, let me add that this is an intense time – the last 5 weeks of my coaching certification course – a time to get coaching hours in, up my marketing and not slack off.
It is also the exact time I’ve come home to visit my family and friends and play in the soothing waters of the Indian Ocean… and drink a ton of almond milk cappuccinos and consume my body weight in raw (and sometimes not so raw) desserts!
So anyway, this morning I woke up later than usual with my body clock still getting used to the ‘UTC/GMT +8 hours’ program. Feeling unsettled and unenthusiastic about starting on the blog posts I had planned to write, I rationalized that there was no time to lose and I’d better get started straight away.
But the sky was so blue.
For a while I hesitated in the indecision, before gathering my things quickly and leaving the house, stopping for coffee at my favourite café to journal and visiting the beach for my beloved walk.
And I’m so glad that I took this time to connect to myself and give my mind the space to empty because when hustling, it’s easy to get in a frantic energy rather than a centered, grounded place, and it’s easy then to spend a whole lot of time checking things online without really doing all you want to do.
There is always the challenge of staying in a vibration of success without it turning to an energy of desperation.
This expresses itself as not being able to be still and having a frantic & oh-so excited energy – which is actually the energy of the head.
As powerfully feminine women, we have the opportunity to get back into our bodies and hustle from a place of peace.
So sitting at the café with the perfectly-frothed cappuccino and my journal, I was able to reflect on what was working and what wasn’t and get the swirling emotions out to understand them, making me feel settled and grounded and in my power again.
I’d like to share with you what works for me and how I hustle from a place of peace :
1. Make connecting to yourself daily a non-negotiable.
No matter how busy you get. Schedule it in.
And I know that we know it! But it often gets chucked out the window when the heat sets in.
The Dalai Lama said he meditates for two hours a day, unless he is busy. If he has a busy day coming up, he meditates three hours!
Even if you’re a working mother you can manage to connect to yourself daily – I interviewed Christine Miskinis on how she does it in the Healthy and Powerfully Feminine Interview Series (you can still subscribe to receive it by clicking here)
3. Have a schedule & stick to it.
It allows flexibility & freedom. There is always the temptation to work 24/7 so schedule your free time in too.
4. Get inspired before you start working.
Allow yourself the time to just drive or walk in nature without listening to any motivational material or podcasts. Music is optional.
Journal about whatever. Do yoga if you must.
Ideas will come to you.
“In Zen Buddhism they say the mind should be like an empty rice bowl. If it’s already full, then the universe can’t fill it. If it’s empty it has room to receive.”
5. Reserve 1-2 days a week for creativity and reflection.
This is when you can create all your marketing and posts and also work on your business.
You could start this day in nature and give yourself the freedom to be filled with ideas. Make it part of your schedule.
6. Schedule time to respond to emails & FB posts.
Answering & writing emails & responding on FB is a totally different energy to creating. It puts us in a different head space & makes us very distracted – don’t you think?
I isolate myself from it on the days I create and only respond to social media and emails after the time for creation is finished.
2. When you feel a frantic or desperate energy, get offline and get back to yourself.
When we’re feeling unsettled we can reach for instagram or FB to connect with the outside world, but what we really need is to connect with ourselves. This unsettled feeling really needs the time & space for you to sit down and get it out.
It may feel like that’s time you don’t have to waste but you’ll be a lot more productive once you feel clear.
8. Focus on 1-2 activities a day.
Have it in your schedule too so your subconscious mind knows that Monday is mainly for organizing & corresponding & Tuesday is for creating posts and videos & Wednesday is for coaching & so on.
I’ve found this to be most effective for productivity – if not whole days then large chunks of time.
7. Do the most important thing first.
The most important thing may be the thing you resist most because honestly, isn’t it so much easier to answer emails than write a blog post?
9. Be consistently marketing
Have a plan pinned up at your work space.
Know that not every message will get a response and not everyone will see or open all your messages.
Have particular days for sending out your newsletter & mailers.
Keep tweaking your message & refining your voice.
And most importantly, come from an inspired place – that’s why I love to gather lots of ideas on one or two days and then spend the rest of the week putting it out there.
10. Keep taking action on that inspiration.
And get help implementing from a virtual assistant.
Hustling with peace is really about having the structures in place to allow for focused productivity, creative flow and of course, self-connection.
